Urchfont Manor is situated in the village of Urchfont which is near Devizes in Wiltshire. It is a beautiful house set in 10 acres of parkland that has a history stretching back more than 330 years. Twice per year, in the Spring and Autumn, Raymond Burley runs a weekend course there. A second teacher will also be present; in the past these have included Cornelius Bruinsma, Chris Kilvington, John Mills, Arne Brattland and John Feeley.

The courses are designed for classical guitarists from Grade 4 upwards and concentrate on several forms of ensemble playing: guitar orchestra, quartets, trios and duos. Solos can also be coached if required. The music for the large group work is posted to the students prior to the course.

It was partially rebuilt in 1866 only to have the tower collapse 15 years later and this was rebuilt being completed in 1884.

It was at a public meeting on 30 October 1815 that Admiral Sir James Saumarez, later Lord de Saumarez, conceived the idea of building St James.

The church was to provide a place of worship for the British garrison in Guernsey, where services could be held in English. At that time, services in the Town Church were held in French. The building was completed in 1818.

After a full life, which included its use as the Elizabeth College chapel for many years, the building finally became redundant in 1970 and fell into partial decay.

In 1981 The Friends of St James Association was formed to achieve St James' restoration and then to administer the building as a concert and assembly hall. The States agreed to pay for its full restoration in 1983 and the building re-opened in July 1985.

Since that time, St James has provided the island with a unique and versatile venue for concerts and public events covering a broad range of tastes for both residents and visitors.

In early 2002, the Dorey Centre opened after a fifteen month building period and years of fund raising by the Friends of St James Association. The resulting three-storey annexe now houses a reception and box office, four function rooms, bar and café as well as the prestigious Guernsey Tapestry.

The Concert Hall of Xinghai Conservatory of Music in the Guangzhou University Town with a capacity of 1,060, is the world's huge symphonic halls and the first acoustics-oriented music hall nationwide. It can produce the first-class acoustic effects.

The concert hall has been tested by the Acoustic Research Office of South China University. It shows that the reverberation time of medium frequencies when all the seats are taken is 2.2 seconds, higher than the 2 seconds in the National Grand Theatre and Music Hall Vienna. The other indices are also among the top 3 in China.

The music halls hold international academic meetings and master classes as well as introduce domestic and international music festivals in addition to being a base for teaching and research. It constitutes the three major halls together with the Ersha Xinghai Music Hall and Guangzhou Opera.

The Town Hall re-opened on Thursday 4 October 2007, with a two-week festival of events on the theme Celebrating the Past, Pioneering the Future. Town Hall has undergone a £35m renovation, funded by Birmingham City Council (£18.3m), Heritage Lottery Fund (£13.7m) and European Regional Development Fund (£3m).

Acclaimed at its opening in 1834 as the finest music hall in the country, this Grade 1 listed landmark has been lovingly and painstakingly renovated by a dedicated team of conservation and construction professionals. Since that time, its imposing neo-classical design has dominated the City centre's Victoria and Chamberlain Squares.

The society was formed in 1981 to promote ensemble classical guitar playing. The original members were part of an evening class run by the London Borough of Enfield. The guitar orchestra is a member of the Enfield Arts Network and meets bi-monthly at Millfield House Arts Centre in North London. We give a few concerts each year, from a repertoire which ranges from Bach to light classical and jazz influenced contemporary pieces. The society has premiered many new pieces written especially for the ensemble by our resident amateur composer. In addition to ensemble playing, the society arranges occasional guest recitals and workshops. Amongst the artists to appear are The Pro-Arte Trio, The New Pro Arte Trio, Dimitris Dimakopoulos, Jonathan Richards, Petros Andreou, Shuko Shibata, The Lorca Guitar Duo and Andrew York. Workshops have ranged from Guitar construction to chord construction. Friendly and expert ensemble tuition is available. New members of all standards are very welcome.

The opening of the railway station at Winchmore Hill in the 1880s spurred the birth of a new suburb. In 1880, the minister of Wood Green accepted an offer of land from Thomas Kelsey, a builder and Congregationalist, and the stone-laying of the Eaton Park Chapel, now Winchmore Hill Methodist Church, took place.

By 1910, a much larger building was needed and, on 28 September 1912, the President of Conference opened the new church. After the First World War, the Circuit Meeting requested Winchmore Hill to undertake responsibility for the formation of the Society at Grange Park. Thirteen of the nineteen original members of the new Society came from Winchmore Hill.Since the Second World War, immigration has brought people from various parts of the world into Winchmore Hill. As the church began its second century, its building was in need of extensive and costly repairs and the question raised: Repair or Redevelop? The decision was made to redevelop and, in 1987, a more modern church building was built and opened using the transept end of the old church.

Raymond Burley recording Bach Holy Trinity Church, Weston

Urchfont Manor is situated in the village of Urchfont which is near Devizes in Wiltshire. It is a beautiful house set in 10 acres of parkland that has a history stretching back more than 330 years. Twice per year, in the Spring and Autumn, Raymond Burley runs a weekend course there. A second teacher will also be present; in the past these have included Cornelius Bruinsma, Chris Kilvington, John Mills, Arne Brattland and John Feeley.

The courses are designed for classical guitarists from Grade 4 upwards and concentrate on several forms of ensemble playing: guitar orchestra, quartets, trios and duos. Solos can also be coached if required. The music for the large group work is posted to the students prior to the course.

In 2002, the Park completed a major programme of refurbishment. A successful application for £3million from the Arts Council of England National Lottery Board, partnered with £1million from Bracknell Forest Borough Council, has created an exciting development of the mansion buildings. The scheme has transformed the interior of the old building into a purpose built art space. A New Atrium opened up the heart of the building and provides an attractive meeting place, a restaurant and bar featuring art works and an informal performance space.

Gilbert Rowland was born in Glasgow. He studied harpsichord at the Royal College of Music with Millicent Silver and made his debut at Fenton House, Hampstead while still a student. Recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and major festivals in Britain and abroad followed soon after. Broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 have helped to establish his reputation as one of the country's leading harpsichordists. His recordings of Scarlatti and Fischer have received considerable acclaim in the musical press. He recently completed a 13 disc set of the complete Soler sonatas for Naxos.

Raymond Burley BBC Radio 2 - Friday Night is Music Night

Raymond has been asked to appear again on BBC Radio 2's Friday Night Is Music Night.

Last April he performed as part of the duo 'Double Vision' with Gordon Giltrap. The programme is usually broadcast live but this edition will be recorded at the Mermaid Theatre in east London on Tuesday 2nd June; it's assumed it will be broadcast during the evening of Friday 5th.

Raymond will play three solo pieces: Cadiz by Isaac Albeniz, Porro by Gentil Montana and Andrew York's Sunburst.

Wokingham Town Hall stands boldly at the heart of Wokingham. It is built on the site where a market was granted a charter by Henry III in 1227. Early records suggest there has been a Clock-house or Guildhall here since well before 1583 when Queen Elizabeth I granted the town a Charter.

The New Town Hall is Built 1858-1860

Although substantially renovated in 1819, the old Guildhall had become so dilapidated by 1857 that it was decided to demolish it and build a replacement, mainly as a courthouse and police station, but also with a Council Chamber, small covered market and rooms for reading and a savings bank.

A competition was held and the design, by the Reading architects Poulton & Woodman selected. The new Town Hall cost over £3,500 of which £2,000 was provided by the County Police Committee, £500 from Corporation members and the rest by public subscription. It was completed in 1860.

Built in Victorian gothic style, the Town Hall is a tribute to the skilled craftsmanship of the Reading builders, Wheeler & Woodroffe, and those who worked for them. From the outside it looks much the same as it did in the 1860s but the courtyard has been covered and a number of changes made to the internal structure. It is now a Grade II* listed building.

The Town Hall has always been available for community use when it was not needed for official business. Balls, dinners, concerts, lectures, displays, meetings, bazaars, sales and more recently weddings have been held in the Main Hall with the smaller rooms being used for meetings and smaller functions.

West Dean College is an imposing 19th century flint-faced mansion located in the village of West Dean which near Chichester in West Sussex.

West Dean is a unique community, a creative mix of artists and craftspeople, conservators and restorers, working alongside gardeners, farmers, foresters and builders.

West Dean College is part of the Edward James Foundation, a charitable trust located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in south-east England. The house is set in 6000 acres of parkland. The core of the house was built between 1804-30 for Lord Selsey. William James acquired the estate in 1891 and altered and extended the house.

The Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare is a 664-seat venue offering a year-round programme of entertainment. It puts on around 300 shows a year which include both amateur and professional productions covering music, drama, comedy, opera, children's shows, ballet, musicals and pantomime. The bar and coffee area are open from 30 minutes before curtain-up until the end of the interval and offer drinks, crisps, ice creams and confectionary.

The Stables is situated in a beautiful rural setting in Wavendon, just to the south east of Milton Keynes and a short drive from central Milton Keynes.

Wavendon Allmusic Plan Ltd (WAP), a registered charity, was founded in 1969 by the world-renowned jazz musicians Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth, with an aim to provide a centre of musical activity which would break down barriers between music genres and introduce music to as many people as possible regardless of age or social background.

The vision was realised with the development of The Stables Theatre, in some outbuildings at their home, as a venue for concerts and education activities. In October 2000, the new Stables Theatre opened its doors on a 398 seat auditorium which now presents over 200 concerts and over 200 education sessions each year.

This concert has been postponed until next year. A new date will be announced shortly.

The concert will feature Raymond Burley performing solo and with the Bonnici String Quartet, flautist Chris Britton, tenor Hugo Tucker and reader David Clover. The programme will include: 'Platero y Yo' by Spanish guitarist and composer Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, 'Guitar Quintet' by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Dudley Moore's 'Horizon' for guitar and strings, and 'Sonata' (BWV 1033) for flute and guitar by Johann Sebastian Bach. The programme will also include guitar solos.

The Holywell Music Room is the oldest concert hall in Europe, built in 1742; Handel is among the many famous composers and musicians to have appeared here.

Although initially the players were not certain that the mix of nylon and steel-strung guitars would blend sufficiently well, rehearsals and some very successful concerts - including The Purcell Room at London's South Bank Centre - helped to convince them that not only would it work well but that it was a partnership to which both musicians would be happy to devote a major amount of time.

The duo has been hailed as one of the most exciting guitar partnerships to emerge in recent years.

The Countess of Huntingdon's Hall was built as a chapel in 1773 by the very formidable Selina, Countess of Huntingdon. She was the Founder of the Calvinistic/Methodist group known as the Countess of Huntingdon' Connexion. The Chapel prospered until the second half of this century when congregations declined. The last service was held here in 1976.

By this time the building was in a deplorable state of repair, and there was a move to demolish it. However, a determined group of Worcester people fought to prevent this happening and, after ten years during which nearly £1 million was raised, the unique features of the chapel were repaired and restored to what you see today.

Many of the original pews have been retained with the addition of cushion, a number of which have needlework covers made by Worcestershire W.I. members. The pulpit was the centrepoint of the Chapel, and it's occupant was visible from all seats in the building. Nowadays the focus is on the stage, several feet lower, which is why there are seats in the gallery known to us as "listening seats". Graceful curved staircases lead up to the pulpit, which is flanked by two splendid eagle lecterns. The original communion rail is still in place beneath the stage. The organ is a very fine one, built by John Nicholson of Worcester in 1840.

Our beautiful Hall, the only one of its kind in the country, is a Grade II listed building. The poet John Betjeman visited it, and described it as being "unique and irreplaceable...a Georgian gem

Darlington Arts Centre is steeped in history and originally began its life as Darlington College of Education. In 2001 ownership of the building was officially handed over to Darlington Borough Council. Since then, ongoing improvements and updating have maintained the profile of Darlington Arts Centre as one of the top regional arts venues.

In 2007 the Arts Centre completed an exciting refurbishment programme, which improved facilities for our customers and visiting artists. One of the most remarkable buildings in West Yorkshire and the only remaining square church in Britain, Square Chapel was designed by Thomas Bradley and built in 1772.

Unbelievably for a building of such historic and architectural importance, it was allowed to fall into a sad state of disrepair. The home at various times to Sunday Schools, scout groups, football teams and its own orchestra, it was threatened with demolition.

In 1988, the Square Chapel Trust was formed to save the building and breathe new life into it. The Trust has been remarkably successful.

The building has been carefully and lovingly restored over the last ten years, with many of the features found in a thriving arts centre including an attractive bar. The sensitively renovated auditorium is spectacular, its perfect acoustic one of the finest anywhere in the country.

Located in Old Town, Swindon Arts Centre is an intimate venue particularly suitable for music, small-scale drama and comedy. It has:

The people of Bristol have been enjoying music at Colston Hall for almost 140 years. The David Hall, is run by The Petherton Arts Trust, a non-profit making body. It is renowned for its range of top quality musical events. "The small hall with a big reputation" is situated in Somerset's Village of the Year 2005.

The Hall now has comfy new chairs taking the seating capacity is up to 130, and terrific acoustics!

Urchfont Manor is situated in the village of Urchfont which is near Devizes in Wiltshire. It is a beautiful house set in 10 acres of parkland that has a history stretching back more than 330 years. Twice per year, in the Spring and Autumn, Raymond Burley runs a weekend course there. A second teacher will also be present; in the past these have included Cornelius Bruinsma, Chris Kilvington, John Mills, Arne Brattland and John Feeley.

The courses are designed for classical guitarists from Grade 4 upwards and concentrate on several forms of ensemble playing: guitar orchestra, quartets, trios and duos. Solos can also be coached if required. The music for the large group work is posted to the students prior to the course.

Double Vision ( Gordon Giltrap and Raymond Burley ) are delighted to be playing a charity fundraiser for the church development project at Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry.

Holy Trinity is the church where C S Lewis, who wrote the Chronicles of Narnia, and numerous Christian books, worshipped for 30 years. Lewis is buried in the churchyard and the church has a Narnia window adjacent to the pew where Lewis sat on each occasion he attended a service. The story of how Lewis met Joy Gresham, married her and her subsequent death from bone cancer is told in the play and film ‘Shadowlands’.

In 2002, the Park completed a major programme of refurbishment. A successful application for £3million from the Arts Council of England National Lottery Board, partnered with £1million from Bracknell Forest Borough Council, has created an exciting development of the mansion buildings. LiveArts was established in 2002 following a major appeal to reorder St Mary’s Church, Banbury. When the church was reordered, a large performance area was built with under floor heating and dance floor. Although St Mary’s is still an active place of worship, it is also a wonderful Grade I listed building and performance space with seating for up to 600 people.

LiveArts is a voluntary arts organisation that promotes and organises an annual programme of both professional and community-led concerts in St. Mary’s. We hold over 25 events per year and have staged major concerts with performers such as Ralph McTell, Cleo Laine & Johnny Dankworth, Hayley Westenra, The London Community Gospel Choir, Show of Hands, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Welsh National Opera, Dame Felicity Lotte and Sir Thomas Allen to name but a few. The venue has excellent facilities and we try to accommodate the needs of most organisations wishing to hire the church. LiveArts is also fully licensed and is happy to provide bar refreshments during concerts.

LiveArts has a team of up to 30 volunteers who work hard to make sure that visitors to concerts at St Mary’s receive a warm and friendly reception. We want everyone to enjoy their experience so that they come back to revisit us!

LiveArts aims are to provide high quality performing arts events for the wider community and to raise funds from the concerts to help support the maintenance of the Grade I listed building.

The ‘Warminster Military Wives Choir’ (some of whom feature on the new Gary Barlow Commonwealth track 'Sing' and performed live at the Monday evening Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace) are delighted to accept to perform on 22nd September in Banbury.

All monies raised will be donated to the charity "Help for Heroes"

Set beside the River Otter in one of Devon's most beautiful valleys and just a mile or so from East Devon's magnificent world heritage coast, Otterton Mill is an altogether different kind of experience.

A centuries old working watermill, a famous bakery and shop brim full of superb local produce, a fabulous restaurant serving food to die for and a gallery selling work from a selection of the best artists from Devon, Dorset and Somerset. The Mill boasts four superb resident artists who can be visited working in their own studios. We also promote world class music and the Mill is now recognised as the south wests leading roots music venue.

Otterton Mill hosts dozens of world class acoustic performances each year. Most weeks, usually on Thursday nights, we welcome exceptional musicians from the realms of folk, blues, jazz, country, Americana and the classics. Located in Old Town, Swindon Arts Centre is an intimate venue particularly suitable for music, small-scale drama and comedy. It has:

The Countess of Huntingdon's Hall was built as a chapel in 1773 by the very formidable Selina, Countess of Huntingdon. She was the Founder of the Calvinistic/Methodist group known as the Countess of Huntingdon' Connexion. The Chapel prospered until the second half of this century when congregations declined. The last service was held here in 1976.

By this time the building was in a deplorable state of repair, and there was a move to demolish it. However, a determined group of Worcester people fought to prevent this happening and, after ten years during which nearly £1 million was raised, the unique features of the chapel were repaired and restored to what you see today.

Many of the original pews have been retained with the addition of cushion, a number of which have needlework covers made by Worcestershire W.I. members. The pulpit was the centrepoint of the Chapel, and it's occupant was visible from all seats in the building. Nowadays the focus is on the stage, several feet lower, which is why there are seats in the gallery known to us as "listening seats". Graceful curved staircases lead up to the pulpit, which is flanked by two splendid eagle lecterns. The original communion rail is still in place beneath the stage. The organ is a very fine one, built by John Nicholson of Worcester in 1840.

Our beautiful Hall, the only one of its kind in the country, is a Grade II listed building. The poet John Betjeman visited it, and described it as being "unique and irreplaceable...a Georgian gem

South Hill Park mansion is a Grade II listed building of special architectural interest. It is surrounded by landscaped gardens and parkland with two lakes and areas of woodland.

The Norwegian Church Arts Centre is a charitable organisation, which provides exhibition space and a beautiful setting for concerts. It also provides lecture facilities and a special ambiance for conferences. The church itself was closed in 1974. A decade later, in 1987, it was dismantled and stored to be rebuilt at a later time in its present location. It became an Arts Centre and was not reconsecrated. However, the present day uses of the building recreate the tranquil, relaxed and welcoming chararcter of the former church. The atmosphere of the building reflects the past use of the church as a cultural centre and meeting place.

Guitar course Missenden Abbey Conference Centre

Built in 1133, the Abbey remained a religious house for nearly 400 years. In 1536 however, the Abbey and its grounds were sold to new owners. Missenden Abbey then became a country mansion residence for a succession of families until 1946, when it was sold to Buckinghamshire County Council for use as an adult learning facility.

Following the devastation of a fire in 1985, the gutted interior was restored and renovated, still in keeping with the architecture of the building. This was completed in 1988 and was reopened by HRH the Duke of Gloucester.

Today, you can still see where the flames licked the stained glass windows, completely changing their pattern and hues, making them a truly striking feature of the original building.

The Abbey was bought in the mid 1990’s by Buckinghamshire New University and has remained a training facility ever since.
